About Iguin
Iguin is a witch of the Brimmed Caps, the outlawed order that rejects the laws hiding magic from the world. Wearing a pointed hood with a single watching eye, Iguin gave a small girl named Coco a picture book of spells years ago, and has been waiting ever since to see what she would draw. Iguin is the story's smiling shadow.
Appearance
Iguin's face is hidden by the Brimmed Caps' pointed hood, marked with a single watching eye. Nothing about Iguin's build or manner gives away age or intent; the effect is of a smiling shadow, a figure designed to be watched back by. The eye motif follows Iguin everywhere, on the hood and in the feeling of being observed.
Personality
Iguin is patient, playful and unnervingly calm, a tempter rather than a brute. Where the Knights Moralis enforce secrecy, Iguin believes the secret itself is the crime, and treats Coco less like a pawn than an experiment: give a child the means of magic, step back, and see what the world does. Iguin's courtesy makes the menace worse.
Background & Story
Iguin belongs to the Brimmed Caps, the outlawed witches who refuse the Great Hall's laws and want magic's secret returned to the world. At a festival years before the story, a masked Iguin gave the young Coco a picture book of real spells and magical ink, the gift that led, years later, to her mother's petrification and her apprenticeship. Iguin has watched Coco ever since, waiting to see what the outsider girl will draw, and what her existence will do to the wall between witches and the world.
Powers & Abilities
- Drawn seal magic: Iguin uses drawn seal magic without the Great Hall's restrictions, including forbidden spells the law was written to contain.
Key Relationships
- Coco: The child Iguin chose, given the picture book years ago and watched ever since as a living test of the Brimmed Caps' beliefs.
- Qifrey: The teacher standing between Iguin and Coco, and a man whose own past is tangled with the Brimmed Caps.
- Easthies: The Knights Moralis captain hunting Iguin's order, law and outlaw circling the same girl.
