About Easthies
Easthies is the stern captain of the Knights Moralis, the order of witches who enforce magic's laws and erase the memories of anyone who learns its secret. To Easthies, Coco is not a girl but a breach in the wall protecting the world. He pursues the Brimmed Caps relentlessly, and watches Qifrey's atelier just as closely.
Appearance
Easthies is a tall, severe adult witch with a hard, unreadable expression and the bearing of a soldier. He wears the uniform-like robes and pointed hat of the Knights Moralis, and everything about him, posture, dress, speech, is regulation-straight. He looks like the law given a face, which is precisely the point.
Personality
Easthies is stern, dispassionate and by-the-book to his core. He believes the secrecy laws are the only thing standing between the world and the horrors magic once caused, and he will enforce them on anyone, child, apprentice or old friend, without visible hesitation. Whether duty has left room for doubt in him is a question he never lets anyone ask.
Background & Story
Easthies serves as a field captain, a deputy leader, of the Knights Moralis, the witches charged with policing magic: hunting forbidden spellcasters like the Brimmed Caps and erasing the memories of outsiders who learn magic's secret. Coco's case lands directly in his jurisdiction, and he watches Qifrey's atelier as closely as he hunts the outlaws, suspecting the teacher may be as much a problem as the pupil. To the apprentices he is the story's cold reminder of what the witch world does to people who break its rules.
Powers & Abilities
- Drawn seal magic: As a senior knight, Easthies commands powerful drawn seal magic, including the order's memory-erasing spells.
- Memory erasure: The Knights Moralis erase the magic-related memories of outsiders who learn the secret, the punishment Easthies exists to carry out.
Key Relationships
- Coco: The breach he is charged with containing, an outsider who knows the secret and was not erased.
- Qifrey: A fellow witch Easthies watches closely, suspecting his protection of Coco hides its own rule-breaking.
