About Ging Freecss

Ging Freecss is Gon's father and one of the most famous Hunters alive, a man who helped create the game Greed Island and restored ancient ruins purely for the joy of it. Brilliant, restless and famously hard to find, he left Gon as a baby to keep chasing adventure. Gon's whole journey begins because of him, and everyone who knows Ging respects his rare talent.

Appearance

Ging is a man of average height with spiky dark hair usually hidden under a turban-like wrap or bandana, a stubbled face and sharp, restless eyes very like Gon's. He dresses for travel in worn, practical layers and carries an air of permanent motion, he looks like a man photographed mid-departure, which he usually is. Those who know him describe an unremarkable-looking person whose presence and reputation are anything but. Gon, who has never met him, knows the face only from a single photograph.

Personality

Ging is brilliant, selfish, shy and completely incapable of staying, a man who pursues whatever fascinates him and lets everything else, including fatherhood, fall where it may. He is notoriously difficult: rude to colleagues, allergic to attention, and embarrassed to the point of flight by the idea of simply meeting his son. Yet his works show a strange generosity, Greed Island was built with friends as a gift for Gon to grow through, and ruins he restores are given to the public. Ging does not lack feeling; he lacks the ability to stand still inside it.

Background & Story

Ging left Whale Island at twelve, took the Hunter Exam and became one of the greatest Hunters of his generation: a Double-Star Ruins Hunter whose restorations are funded from his own pocket, one of the top five Nen users Chairman Netero rates highest, and a lead creator of Greed Island, a game built inside the real world for Hunters only. He married, had Gon, and left the baby with his cousin Mito to raise while he returned to his wandering. Rather than meet his son, Ging leaves him a trail, a recorded message, the game, and a world of people who know him, designed so that the search itself makes Gon into someone who understands why his father chose this life.
