Frieren is an elf mage who helped defeat the Demon King as part of a hero's party. Because elves live for a very long time, she sees time very differently from her human friends. Her quiet journey after the big adventure is about understanding people, memories, and the small moments she once rushed past.

Appearance

Frieren is a petite elf with very long white hair worn in twin tails, green eyes and pointed ears, who looks like a girl in her mid-teens despite her great age. She dresses simply for the road, a white and black striped tunic under a short white cape with gold trim, black leggings and boots, and carries a red wooden staff topped with a gold crescent ornament. A pair of red earrings, a gift from her teacher Flamme, are her one constant piece of jewellery. Nothing about her small, sleepy appearance suggests her power, which is rather the point: Frieren has spent a thousand years making sure enemies underestimate her.

Personality

Frieren is calm, blunt and quietly eccentric. A millennium of life has given her a warped sense of time: she sleeps in, loses whole mornings, and can happily search a dungeon for days over a single grimoire. She collects folk magic the way others collect stamps, treasuring spells that make flowers bloom or clothes clean. Emotionally she is reserved to a fault, she processes grief slowly and often decades late, but she is not cold. She pays attention in her own way, remembers small kindnesses for centuries, and since Himmel's death has been making a real, awkward effort to know people before it is too late.

Background & Story

Frieren was taught magic by Flamme, the legendary founder of humanity's magic, who drilled one lesson into her: hide your mana and fool your enemies. Roughly a thousand years later she joined the hero Himmel's party alongside the priest Heiter and the dwarf Eisen, and after a ten-year journey they defeated the Demon King. To Frieren the decade felt brief, and she parted from her friends casually, promising to visit. When she returned fifty years later, Himmel was an old man, and his funeral soon after taught her, too late, how little she had bothered to know him. Regretting that, Frieren set out on a new journey north toward Aureole, the resting place of souls, this time determined to understand the people walking beside her.

• Mana Suppression: Frieren keeps her enormous mana permanently restricted, so enemies read her as a mediocre mage, a deception she has maintained for a thousand years.
• Folk Magic Collection: A thousand years of collecting humble spells, from creating a field of flowers to cleaning and mending, useless in war, priceless to her.
• Flight Magic: Frieren can fly and carry her companions through the air, making cliffs, rivers and sieges minor inconveniences.
