Aura

About Aura

Aura the Guillotine is one of the Demon King's seven sages of destruction, a demon commander who weighs her victims' mana on her scales of obedience and enslaves whoever loses. She besieges a northern city with an army of headless puppets, and walks straight into the one mage she should never have challenged again: Frieren.

Appearance

Aura looks like a young woman with long pink hair worn in twin tails, small demon horns and a calm, faintly amused expression. She dresses in dark, elegant travelling clothes and carries her golden scales everywhere. There is nothing monstrous about her appearance at all, which is the point: demons look like people, and Aura's pretty face hides a being that has casually ruined lives for centuries.

Personality

Aura is serene, polite and utterly without empathy. She does not hate humans; she simply regards them as livestock with a shelf life. Her confidence comes from five centuries of her scales never failing her, and she approaches war like bookkeeping. That calm arrogance is also her blindness: Aura cannot imagine anyone deceiving her about mana, because mana is the only language she believes in.

Background & Story

Aura the Guillotine served the Demon King as one of his Seven Sages of Destruction. After his fall she went quiet for decades, then resurfaced to besiege a northern city with an army of headless puppet soldiers. Her cruelty is administrative: she weighs souls and files people away as tools. In pushing north she runs into the one opponent whose mana she has misjudged before, Frieren, who has not forgotten their last meeting twenty-eight years earlier.

Powers & Abilities

• Auserlese, Scales of Obedience: Aura places her soul and her target's on her scales and weighs their mana; the loser must obey her every command without limit.

Key Relationships

• Frieren: Her old enemy from the war against the Demon King, and the mage whose true mana Aura fatally misreads.
