Flamme

About Flamme

Flamme was a legendary human mage from a thousand years ago, famous as the founder of humanity's magic. She took the young Frieren as her student and taught her the lesson that shaped her life: hide your mana, fool your enemies, and love the small, foolish spells most of all. Her grimoires still guide Frieren's journey today.

Appearance

Flamme appears in Frieren's memories as a young human woman with long orange-red hair and a calm, knowing smile, dressed in the simple robes of a travelling mage. There are no statues' worth of grandeur about her in person, she looks like an ordinary wandering scholar, which suited her: the most influential mage in human history preferred small spells, small villages and staying out of the stories told about her.

Personality

Flamme was playful, irreverent and wise, a genius who found grand magic less interesting than a spell that makes flowers bloom. She understood demons, war and human nature with clear eyes, and taught her student that survival comes before pride. Her affection for Frieren was real but unsentimental: she prepared the elf to outlive her, and left behind knowledge instead of comfort.

Background & Story

A thousand years ago, Flamme learned magic in an age when humans were considered incapable of it, and became the founder of humanity's magical tradition. Travelling alone, she took in a young elven orphan named Frieren and taught her everything, above all, the lesson that shaped Frieren's life: a mage's greatest weapon is deception, so restrict your mana, hide your strength and let enemies underestimate you. Flamme loved humble, 'foolish' spells most of all, and her grimoires and teachings still surface a millennium later, quietly guiding Frieren's road north.
