About Andrew Gilbert Mills

Andrew Gilbert Mills is Agil, a towering axe-user who runs a humble item shop on Aincrad's 50th floor, famous for never cheating a customer and for fighting on the front lines himself. In real life he runs the Dicey Café with his wife, which becomes the survivors' gathering place after the game. Calm, generous and rock-solid, Agil is the friend everyone trusts: Kirito leaves his most precious things in Agil's keeping, in both worlds.

Appearance

Agil is a tall, powerfully built man with a shaved head, a trimmed goatee and a calm, level expression that makes him look older than he is. In Aincrad he wears smith-and-leather gear over his broad frame and carries a huge two-handed axe with the ease of a shopkeeper moving stock. In the real world he is the same man behind the counter of the Dicey Café in Tokyo, apron over a shirt, in the café he runs with his wife Kathy, the look of the survivors' living room, because that is what his café becomes.

Personality

Agil is calm, dry-humoured and completely unshakeable, the adult in the room in every world he enters. He never cheats a customer, never abandons a raid and never panics, and his generosity is practical rather than sentimental: he equips people, feeds people and gives them a place to sit. Kirito trusts him with his most precious possessions without discussion, which tells you everything. In a story about teenagers learning to survive, Agil is what grown-up decency looks like, and the series knows exactly how rare that is.

Background & Story

Andrew Gilbert Mills entered Sword Art Online as Agil and built his survival on trade: his item shop on the 50th floor became famous among players for fair dealing in a game where cheating the desperate was easy money. What the rumours sometimes miss is that Agil also fought. He joined boss raids on the front line with his axe, spending his shop's profits to equip the clearers. After the game, he and his wife opened the Dicey Café in Tokyo, which became the survivors' regular gathering place, the room where the SAO generation meets, remembers and slowly builds its real life.

Powers & Abilities

• Two-Handed Axe: Agil fights on the front line with a huge two-handed axe, a clearer strong enough to stand in boss raids beside the game's best players.
• Merchant's Eye: His appraisal and trading skill keeps his shop stocked and the clearers equipped: profit spent, famously, on the players who need it most.

Key Relationships

• Kirito: A friend Kirito trusts absolutely. Kirito leaves his most precious things, including Yui's data, in Agil's keeping without a second thought.
• Asuna Yuuki: A fellow front-liner and café regular; Asuna's post-game life, like Kirito's, runs through the Dicey Café's counter.
• Ryotaro Tsuboi: Klein, a fellow front-liner and Dicey Café regular, the two of them are the survivor group's dependable adults.
