Alice Zuberg

About Alice Zuberg

Alice Zuberg was a Rulid village girl taken by the Axiom Church as a child, returning as Alice Synthesis Thirty, a golden Integrity Knight with no memory of home. Fierce and dutiful, she becomes Kirito's enemy, then his protector, the living proof of Underworld's cause: an artificial soul the real world wants as a weapon and its people cherish as a person. Her choice to fight for her own world drives the Alicization finale.

Appearance

Alice is a young woman with long golden hair, usually braided or worn under the golden armour of an Integrity Knight, and clear blue eyes. Her knight's armour is bright gold with a blue-and-white tabard, and she carries the Osmanthus Sword, a slender golden blade that can divide into countless petals of steel. As a child in Rulid she was a village girl in simple clothes with the same golden hair in braids. In every form she stands very straight, duty is visible in her posture before she says a word.

Personality

Alice is proud, disciplined and fiercely dutiful, raised by the Church to be its perfect sword. She believes in order and in the protection of the human empire, and she fights Kirito at first as a genuine believer, not a villain. What sets her apart is her honesty: when the Church's story stops matching what she sees, she does not look away. Her pride becomes resolve. She chooses to protect Underworld's people because they are people, whatever the real world calls them, and she argues their case with the same steel she uses in battle.

Background & Story

Alice grew up in Rulid Village at the edge of the human empire in Underworld, a virtual world of artificial souls, alongside her friends Eugeo and Kirito. As a child she crossed a forbidden boundary into the Dark Territory and touched the ground there, a crime against the Axiom Church's Taboo Index. An Integrity Knight took her away to the Central Cathedral, and the girl who returned years later was Alice Synthesis Thirty: a golden Integrity Knight with her childhood memories sealed, sworn to defend the Church and the Pontifex. Encountering Kirito and Eugeo again, as enemies of the Church she serves, forces her to choose between the duty she was given and the world she can see with her own eyes.

Powers & Abilities

• Osmanthus Sword: Her divine-object blade, the Fragrant Olive Sword, splits into countless golden petals that swarm and cut, then reform into a sword at her command.
• Enhance Armament: Alice can release her weapon's deeper form, multiplying the Osmanthus petals into a storm of steel under her complete control.
• Release Recollection: The highest technique of Underworld's arms, Alice can draw out the Osmanthus Sword's memories and true power for a devastating finishing attack.
• Sacred Arts: Like other Integrity Knights, Alice commands Underworld's sacred arts, elemental commands that shape fire, light and binding force in battle.

Key Relationships

• Eugeo: Her childhood friend from Rulid, who gave up his whole life to climb the Cathedral and bring her home, the debt and the bond drive them both.
• Kirito: First her enemy as a rebel against the Church, then the person she protects with her own sword, and the one who teaches her what the real world wants from Underworld.
• Asuna Yuuki: The swordswoman from the real world who dives into Underworld as the goddess Stacia, first Alice's opponent, then one of her strongest allies.
