About Taiki Inomata
Taiki Inomata is a first-year on Eimei High's badminton team, a player whose talent is ordinary but whose work ethic is anything but. He has loved Chinatsu Kano from afar since before she came to live in his house, and he is determined to earn a place beside her by reaching the national tournament. Earnest to a fault, Taiki improves the only way he knows: by showing up, every single morning.
Appearance
Taiki is a high school boy a little under 170 cm tall, with short spiky black hair, bangs parted to the left, and brown eyes. Regular training has given him a lean, muscular build for his size. He is most often seen in Eimei's uniform or badminton kit, racket in hand, usually on his way to or from the gym he arrives at before anyone else.
Personality
Taiki is earnest to a fault, honest, hardworking and completely unable to do anything by halves. He gets flustered around Chinatsu, overthinks every conversation with her, and then channels all of it into another morning of practice. His kindness is uncalculated and his determination is his talent: a player with no gift who improves by showing up, every single day, until showing up becomes a strength of its own.
Background & Story
Taiki is a first-year at Eimei, a school famous for its sports, and a member of its boys' badminton team, considered, at the start, simply average. Every morning he trains in the gym at dawn, sharing that quiet hour with Chinatsu Kano, the girls' basketball ace a year above him, and he falls for her dedication as much as for her. When Chinatsu's parents move abroad for work, she comes to live with the Inomata family, their mothers are friends, and Taiki's distant crush becomes his housemate. Living under the same roof, he sets himself a goal worthy of standing beside her: reach the national tournament, and earn the right to confess.
Powers & Abilities
- Badminton, relentless rallying: Taiki's game is built on stamina and persistence: he outworks opponents, retrieves relentlessly and treats every rally as a test of who wants it more.
- Doubles with Haryu: Paired with senior Kengo Haryu, Taiki learns top-level doubles play, blunt coaching that turns his work ethic into genuine technique.
Key Relationships
- Chinatsu Kano: The basketball ace he loves, a year above him at Eimei, and, since her parents moved abroad, his housemate.
- Hina Chono: One of his closest friends, the rhythmic gymnast he confides in about Chinatsu, until her own feelings stop being a joke.
- Kyo Kasahara: His best friend and badminton teammate, whose dry honesty says everything Taiki is too earnest to say.
- Kengo Haryu: His senior and doubles partner, whose blunt standard Taiki measures himself against.
