About Kengo Haryu
Kengo Haryu is a senior on Eimei's badminton team and Taiki's doubles partner, a strong, serious player whose standard Taiki measures himself against. His partnership with Taiki is built on blunt honesty: Haryu will not carry a partner who will not work. Off court he is steadier and kinder than his severity suggests, and his own quiet relationship storyline shows the series' romance from an older student's side.
Appearance
Haryu is a tall, athletic third-year with the build and bearing of Eimei badminton's top standard. His expression in training is severe, the look of a player who counts a partner's wasted effort as a personal insult, which makes his off-court steadiness, when it appears, all the more noticeable.
Personality
Haryu is blunt, demanding and fair. He will not carry a partner who will not work, says so to Taiki's face, and then trains beside him until the standard is met. His severity is a form of respect: he only bothers with players he believes can rise. Off court he is steadier and kinder than his reputation, and his own quiet relationship storyline shows the series' romance from an older student's side.
Background & Story
Haryu is a third-year at Eimei, in Chinatsu's grade, and one of the strongest players on the boys' badminton team, he placed highly in qualifiers from his first year. Paired with Taiki in doubles, he becomes the younger player's harshest coach and most important measuring stick: Haryu initially does not see Taiki as a serious competitor, then comes to respect the tenacity he once dismissed. Through Haryu, Taiki learns what top-level badminton actually demands.
