Rize Kamishiro
From Tokyo Ghoul
Rize Kamishiro is a supporting character in Tokyo Ghoul, the beautiful, book-loving ghoul known as the Binge Eater, whose attempt to eat Kaneki ends with her organs transplanted into him. She dies in the accident, but her voice and hunger live on inside the boy she created. She is voiced by Kana Hanazawa in Japanese and Monica Rial in English.
About Rize Kamishiro
Rize Kamishiro is the beautiful, book-loving ghoul whose flirtation lures Kaneki to his fate. Known as the Binge Eater for her enormous appetite, she abandoned the organisation that experimented on her kind and hunted freely through Tokyo's wards. Though she dies in the steel-beam accident that saves Kaneki, her organs, voice and hunger live on inside him, whispering through his worst moments and shaping the one-eyed ghoul he becomes.
Appearance
Rize is a strikingly beautiful young woman with long purple hair, glasses and a soft, bookish elegance, she looks like the heroine of the literary café where Kaneki meets her. Her wardrobe is neat and feminine, her smile shy, her whole presentation a careful construction. The construction drops in an instant when she hunts: her expression turns ravenous and amused, and four rinkaku limbs unfurl from her back, revealing the Binge Eater underneath the book lover.
Personality
Rize is a predator who performs vulnerability, sweet, giggling and helpless in company, gleefully cruel the moment she has her prey alone. Her appetite is her philosophy: raised as property, she takes freedom to mean taking whatever she wants, and other people exist as food, entertainment or obstacles. Even as a voice inside Kaneki's head she is consistent, mocking his restraint, urging him to eat, live and stop apologising, a twisted echo of everything his conscience refuses.
Background & Story
Rize was raised as a 'child of the garden', bred and kept by the powerful organisation behind the CCG's leadership as breeding stock for its bloodline, a gilded captivity she escaped as a teenager. Free for the first time, she indulged her enormous appetite across Tokyo's wards, earning the name Binge Eater and drawing attention she could not afford. Her date with Kaneki in the 20th ward ends under falling steel beams, and her kakuhou is transplanted into the boy she tried to eat. Though Rize's body is taken by the doctor who performed the surgery, her voice, hunger and memories live on inside Kaneki's mind.
Powers & Abilities
- Rinkaku Kagune: Rize's rinkaku is exceptionally strong even for its type, regenerative, powerful tentacle limbs that made her a feared S-rated threat; it is this kagune Kaneki inherits.
- Regeneration: Her healing factor is remarkable among ghouls, one reason her organs could save Kaneki's life and keep producing power inside him.
Key Relationships
- Ken Kaneki: Her intended meal and accidental heir, she lives on in his body and mind, taunting him toward the appetite he refuses.
- Shuu Tsukiyama: A fellow gourmet ghoul of Tokyo's high ghoul society, whose circles Rize moved through before her death.
- Yoshimura: The Anteiku manager who knows what Rize truly is and where she came from, knowledge he keeps from Kaneki for as long as he can.
