Naoto Tachibana is Hinata's younger brother, a serious boy who grows up to be a police detective, and the trigger for Takemichi's time leaps. Every handshake between the adult Naoto and Takemichi sends Takemichi's mind twelve years into the past, and every return brings Naoto a new set of memories to investigate. In the Three Titans era his research into Bonten and Mikey gives Takemichi the information, and the reason, for one final leap.
Appearance
As a boy, Naoto is a small, serious child with neat dark hair and an intense stare well beyond his years. As an adult detective he is tall and composed, in plain suits, with the same focused expression, a man who has organised his entire life around one unsolved death. The family resemblance to Hinata shows most in his eyes and his stubbornness.
Personality
Naoto is methodical, driven and quietly emotional. Told by a time-leaping stranger, as a child, that his sister would die, he believed it, and built a whole career on changing it. He is the mission's brain: researcher, analyst and anchor in the present, feeding Takemichi the facts each leap depends on. Under the detective's discipline is a brother who never stopped grieving in advance.
Background & Story
Naoto Tachibana was a middle-school boy fascinated by the occult when Takemichi, freshly arrived from the future, warned him that Hinata would die twelve years later and shook his hand. That handshake made Naoto the trigger of the time-leap mechanism, and the warning remade his life: he became a police detective devoted to the Tokyo Manji Gang's history. Every time Takemichi returns to the present, Naoto receives the new timeline's memories and briefs him on what changed and what still goes wrong. In the Three Titans era, his research into Bonten and Mikey gives Takemichi the reason for one final leap.
