Maki Shijo

About Maki Shijo

Maki Shijo is a proud member of the Shijo family, rivals of the Shinomiya, and Kaguya's distant relative. She is hopelessly in love with Tsubasa, who is dating her friend Nagisa, and suffers loudly about it to Ishigami, her fellow romantic failure. Sharp-tongued, dramatic and secretly soft-hearted, Maki proves that in Kaguya-sama, even side characters fight their own love wars.

Appearance

Maki is a teenager with light brown hair in short twin tails and sharp, expressive eyes, wearing her Shuchiin uniform with aristocratic confidence that collapses on cue whenever Tsubasa is mentioned.

Personality

Maki is dramatic, sharp-tongued and secretly soft-hearted, a tsundere in the classic mould. She vents her romantic misery to Ishigami, her fellow sufferer, while remaining loyal to Nagisa, which is exactly what makes her suffering complete.

Background & Story

Maki belongs to the Shijo family, the Shinomiya Group's great rivals, making her and Kaguya distant relatives and natural foils. She fell for Tsubasa Tanuma, who began dating her friend Nagisa before Maki could act. Her appearances are a two-person support group with Ishigami, two proud, miserable romantics complaining in stereo, and proof that in this series every character is fighting some love war of their own.

Key Relationships

• Nagisa Kashiwagi: Her friend, and the girlfriend of the boy Maki loves, a fact Maki suffers nobly and noisily.
• Yu Ishigami: Her partner in romantic misery, to whom she delivers her complaints.
• Mikado Shijo: Her twin brother, whose easy genius contrasts with her sparks and pride.
• Kaguya Shinomiya: Her distant relative from the rival family, a mirror in pride and denial.
