Sung Jinah is Jinwoo's younger sister, a bright high-school student studying hard for her future while her brother risks his life in dungeons to support the family. With their mother ill and their father missing, Jinah and Jinwoo lean on each other. She notices his sudden transformation with a sister's eye, teasing him about it while quietly worrying every time he leaves.

Appearance

Jinah is a slim teenage girl with long dark hair usually worn straight or in a simple ponytail, warm brown eyes and her brother's features softened into an open, cheerful face. She is most often seen in her school uniform or simple home clothes, phone in hand, behaving like the most normal person in the series, which is her role in it. Jinah is the 'before' picture of Jinwoo's world: homework, friends, college dreams. As her brother changes into something the world fears, Jinah's unchanged ordinariness becomes the story's measuring stick for what he is fighting to protect.

Personality

Jinah is bright, teasing and tougher than she looks. She grew up fast, father missing, mother in a coma, brother bleeding for grocery money, and her response is to work hard, joke often and refuse to be pitied. She needles Jinwoo about his sudden muscles, height and secretiveness with a sister's total lack of reverence, and studies seriously for a future in medicine, hoping one day to be the one who helps their mother. Jinah's worry for her brother is constant but never whiny; she packs it away and hands him dinner instead. In a story of monsters and monarchs, she is the person whose safety makes all of it mean something.

Background & Story

Jinah was a child when her father, the firefighter-turned-hunter Sung Il-Hwan, vanished into a gate, and a young teenager when her mother collapsed into the Eternal Slumber that strikes people exposed to mana. Her older brother Jinwoo, himself barely grown, became the family's provider through the only work his E-rank allowed. Jinah grew up counting hospital bills and watching Jinwoo come home wounded, and then, suddenly, watching him come home different: taller, stronger, confident, with money and secrets. She does not know about the System, the shadows or the monarchs. She knows her brother is carrying something enormous, and her way of helping is to keep the home he fights for worth coming back to.
