Osamu

About Osamu

Osamu is one of Satoru's classmates and close friends in 1988, part of the group that plays, explores and builds a secret hideout together after school. Loyal and good-natured, he joins Satoru's efforts to keep Kayo included and safe without ever knowing why it matters so much. Osamu helps give Satoru the childhood, and the friendships, worth saving.

Appearance

Osamu is an ordinary, good-natured ten-year-old schoolboy of Satoru's Hokkaido town, usually seen in winter clothes alongside the rest of the group, at the hideout, on the playground, or walking Kayo home as part of Satoru's quietly organised protection.

Personality

Osamu is loyal, easygoing and kind in the unselfconscious way of a child with a good heart. He does not ask why Satoru suddenly cares so much about including Kayo; he simply shows up for it. Through Osamu and the others, Satoru rediscovers the childhood, and the friendships, he had forgotten he ever had.

Background & Story

Osamu is part of Satoru's elementary school circle in 1988, one of the friends who build a secret hideout in an old bus and spend their afternoons together. When the returned Satoru begins gathering the group around Kayo, walking her home, including her in everything, Osamu joins without question. He never learns why it matters. That is rather the point: Osamu's ordinary friendship is one of the things worth saving.

Key Relationships

• Satoru Fujinuma: His friend, whose sudden protectiveness of Kayo Osamu supports without ever knowing the reason.
• Kazu: His fellow classmate and the group's other half of its everyday comedy.
